ABERDEEN PROVING GROUND, Md. -- The Maryland Army National Guard broke ground on a $22.6 million project to renovate the Army Aviation Support Facility at Weide Army Airfield May 22.

Weide Army Airfield serves the Edgewood area of Aberdeen Proving Ground located just north of Baltimore.

Maryland Gov. Martin O'Malley, National Guard officials and Aberdeen Proving Ground leadership ceremoniously threw the first shovels of dirt in a hanger ceremony Saturday.

The project adds 11,500 square feet of renovated space, 20,000 square feet of office space and 65,000 square feet of hangar space.
