FORT CARSON, Colo.---The Liberty Bells visited Fort Carson's USO Monday and performed an array of patriotic and military-themed songs.
The USO group performed the national anthem; an Andrews Sisters medley; a military salute, in which they sang each branch of the armed services songs and "God Bless America" among other tunes.
The New York City-based group tours military installations around the globe, singing patriotic songs from the World War II era and more contemporary songs, such as Rascal Flatts' "Bless the Broken Road."
"It's amazing to be able to tour military installations," said Liberty Bells singer Andre Garner. "It is so uplifting just to be able to say thanks for all our servicemembers do."
Garner was joined by Natalie Loftin Bell, Melissa Vanpelt Johnson and Nancy Emerson. All of the Liberty Bells performers are Broadway or off-Broadway performers who audition to join the group, according to the group's website at http://www.usonyc.org under the "about us" link.
The performers had many audience members at the USO clapping and singing along during the show. The group remained after the show to speak with the Soldiers and Family members present and pose for photos with them.
"It was an opportunity for Soldiers to connect with truly talented performers who perform all over the world," he said.
