FARGO, N.D. -West Fargo VFW Post 7564 recently presented local military Family Readiness Groups with the proceeds of a spring fundraiser. The Remember Our Serving Soldiers, or R.O.S.S., event raised $13,126.57, which will support military family members in the Fargo area.
Service members, as well as spouses and parents of members of the North Dakota Army National Guard, North Dakota Air National Guard and U.S. Navy Reserve, accepted the check, which was presented by Charles Weible, R.O.S.S. program chairman.
"It has been a great honor for the VFW and Ladies Auxiliary from Post 7564 of West Fargo to do this and to show our support for all the military members, and we thank you for your service," Weible said.
This year's event was the seventh annual one hosted by the VFW. In all, about $45,000 has been raised to support military families.
Since the 2001 terrorist attacks on America, the North Dakota National Guard has mobilized more than 3,500 Soldiers and more than 1,800 Airmen in support of the Global War on Terrorism. Currently, about 800 North Dakota Guardsmen are serving overseas. With a total force of about 4,400 Soldiers and Airmen, sufficient forces remain in the state for emergency response and homeland defense.
