FORT BELVOIR, Va. -- The Shingo Prize for Operational Excellence has recognized two U.S. Army Materiel Command programs with Shingo bronze medallions for their work in implementing Lean systems in support of the manufacturing, repair, overhaul and maintenance of warfighter equipment.
The AMC recipients are Red River Army Depot, Texas, for its work on the Up-Armored HMMWV/HMMWV Egress Army Trainer, and Letterkenny Army Depot, Pa., for its work on the PATRIOT Missile System.
Established in 1988, the Shingo Prize for Operational Excellence is administered by Utah State University and has been referred to by Business Week magazine as the "Nobel prize of manufacturing."
The Shingo Prize for Operational Excellence was previously split into a public sector category and a business category, but now the awards are given as one group. Several AMC organizations have been recipients of the Shingo Prize Public Sector Award.
The awards will be presented during the organization's 22nd Annual Awards ceremony in Salt Lake City, Utah, May 20.
