Spouses focus on time management skills

DETROIT ARSENAL, Mich. Aca,!" Military spouses attended a free one-day workshop April 19 to learn techniques for effective time management skills, empowering them with the tools to excel under changing conditions and stressful situations.

Army Community Service, in cooperation with the Tank Automotive Research, Development and Engineering Center, hosted the Steven Covey workshop, Aca,!A"FOCUS - Achieving Your Highest Priorities.Aca,!A?

Aca,!A"I always feel that I have to do everything,Aca,!A? said one spouse. Aca,!A"But doing everything keeps me so busy; I donAca,!a,,ct have time to give to whatAca,!a,,cs really important.Aca,!A?

Aca,!A"I agree,Aca,!A? added another spouse who is preparing to send her eldest daughter to college during the time at which her husband is planning on retiring from the military. Aca,!A"ItAca,!a,,cs important for me to be organized and at the top of my game so I can focus on the upcoming events.Aca,!A?

The class concentrated on CoveyAca,!a,,cs Time Matrix which consists of four quadrants that define daily activity by importance and urgency. Ron Meadows, course instructor, stressed that the goal is to maintain a balance; however, individuals should strive to organize their time so that most of the dayAca,!a,,cs events fall into Quadrant II Aca,!" Important but Not Urgent.

Aca,!A"You canAca,!a,,ct change time,Aca,!A? said Meadows. Aca,!A"You can only change the way you use time.Aca,!A?

Attendees were then introduced to the Productivity Pyramid which serves a guide for effective time management. The theory is that individuals need to start by identifying their values, setting goals, planning weekly, and finally, planning daily.

As the spouses worked on developing personal mission statements to clarify their values, they were presented with complimentary daily planners.

The response from the group following the event was extremely positive and all of the participants expressed their desire to attend future classes.
