BAGHDAD - Soldiers of C Troop, 1st Squadron, 89th Cavalry Regiment, 2nd Brigade Combat Team, 10th Mountain Division, transferred Joint Security Station Salie to members of 1st Battalion, 3rd Brigade, 1st Iraqi Federal Police in a ceremony Tuesday.
As the U.S. draws down forces in Iraq in accordance with the security agreement, JSS facilities are being transferred to Iraqi Security Forces or Government of Iraq ministries. JSS Salie is the third JSS to be transferred to the ISF in 2nd BCT's Operational Environment.
"The work was mutual. We worked together in terms of patrols in our sector. We worked together all the time," said Col. Yousef M'Shutit Mohsin, commander of 1-3-1 FP. "In our area, we were able to control and make peace in the area and get rid of the militia."
C Troop has worked with 1-3-1 FP over the past six months, conducting partnered training, patrols and humanitarian assistance missions.
"The enemy is thinking the American forces are leaving, so that is great. We can operate a lot easier and quicker - wrong," said Brig. Gen Imad Abd Ali Al-Uqabi, 3-1 FP commander. "We are going to show them how they are going to face the law. Now it's a different ball game, and we are in control. We are going to show them what we are made of."
The ceremony took place at JSS Salie with numerous Iraqi FP officers, Federal policemen and U.S. Soldiers participating.
