"Fueling the Future" was the theme for the Army Contracting Command's Commanders' and Directors' Offsite conference in San Antonio, Texas, April 5-9. Participants included the commanding generals and command sergeants major of the Expeditionary Contracting Command and the Mission and Installation Management Command, ACC contracting center executive directors and senior members of the ACC headquarters staff. Also participating was Edward Harrington, Deputy Assistant Secretary of the Army for Procurement.

In his opening remarks, Jeff Parsons, executive director, ACC, reviewed the goals of the conference. "How can we improve our enterprise-wide support for our customers and how we can help prepare our leaders of tomorrow," he asked.

Parsons cited the need for succession planning to ensure the command has qualified candidates who can compete for leadership positions. Parsons also intends to develop a unit status report system that will display the readiness of Army contracting for senior leadership. He thanked everyone for their hard work and dedication in helping the Army Materiel Command's newest command achieve full operational capability in record time.

The conference included presentations and group discussions that covered a wide range of subjects. The ECC and MICC commanders and contracting center executive directors provided overview briefings about their respective operations and priorities. Selected senior members of the ACC headquarters staff also updated the conferees on their activities and future plans. The conference included a strategic planning workshop that addressed ACC's strategic priorities including growing and developing a professional civilian and military workforce; maintaining superior customer relationships; standardizing, improving and assuring quality contracting support, business processes and policies across the command; obtaining and maintaining needed resources; and enhancing the work environment and quality of life.
