KAISERSLAUTERN, Germany - The 405th Army Field Support Brigade welcomed Command Sgt. Maj. Jesse Sharpe, Jr. to the brigade during a change of responsibility ceremony on the parade field at Daenner Kaserne on April 2.

During the ceremony, the brigade bid farewell to departing Command Sgt. Maj. Ismael Rodriguez.

"A mission simply cannot be executed without the efforts of our NCOs," said Col. John Haley, the commander of the 405th AFSB. "They lead by example, enforcing standards and ensuring discipline. Both Command Sgt. Maj. Rodriguez and Command Sgt. Maj. Sharpe epitomize these characteristics and live them each and every day."

Haley commended Rodriguez for his efforts at the brigade, noting that Rodriguez "upheld the traditions, customs and history of this unit to the highest standard."

During an often emotional speech, Bronx, N.Y., native Rodriguez spoke of his love for the Army and its Families.

"The teams' Families serve as well," Rodriguez commented, "making silent and selfless sacrifices that at times only those associated with the military truly appreciate. I pray that my span of influence not only served to aid the brigade in mission accomplishment but that we, the leadership, touched at least one life, that we influenced one person to become a better Soldier."

Sharpe's previous assignment was the command sergeant major for the 172nd Support Battalion in Schweinfurt. Rodriguez will be the new command sergeant major for the 16th Sustainment Brigade in Bamberg.
