Leonard announced as next commanding general of SDDC

SCOTT AIR FORCE BASE, Ill., Apr. 20, 2010 - The Office of the Army Chief of Staff announced today Maj. Gen. Kevin A. Leonard will be assigned as commanding general of the Military Surface Deployment and Distribution Command at a date soon to be determined.

Maj. Gen. James L. Hodge, current commanding general of SDDC as of June 30, 2008, has been selected to command the Sustainment Center of Excellence and Fort Lee, Fort Lee, Va.

Leonard is currently the deputy chief of staff for Operations at the U.S. Army Materiel Command, Fort Belvoir, Va. He has served in a variety of joint and operational assignments to include commanding general, 1st Sustainment Command (Theater), U.S. Army Central Command, Camp Arifjan, Kuwait; commanding general, 1st Sustainment Command (Theater), Fort Bragg, N.C; commanding general, 1st Corps Support Command, XVIII Airborne Corps, Fort Bragg; commander, Special Operations Support Command (Airborne), Fort Bragg; and commander, Army Materiel Command - South West Asia / Coalition Forces Land Component Command, C4.

His education includes a Bachelor of Science degree in Sociology from Emporia State University; Master of Business Administration degree from Oklahoma City University; master's degree in Military Arts and Sciences from the United States Army Command and General Staff College; and a master's degree in strategic studies from the United States Army War College.

SDDC provides global surface deployment and distribution services to meet the nation's objectives and deploys/sustains more than 90 percent of Department of Defense equipment and supplies by leveraging the capability of commercial industry and other military services.
