TALON-STRIKE/Omni Fusion 2010
What is it'
TALON-STRIKE/Omni Fusion 2010 (TS/OF10) is a hybrid event conducted from April 26- May 21, 2010 at Fort Leavenworth, Kan., and distributed to the United Kingdom (U.K.) Land Warfare Center (LWC) and across the United States (U.S.). TS/OF10 combines TALON-STRIKE, the culminating exercise of the multi-year Future Land Operations Interoperability Study - Command, Control, Communications, and Information (FLOIS-C3I), with the TRADOC Concept Development experiment series known as Omni Fusion. TS/OF10 participation includes two U.S. brigade combat teams, a U.K. brigade, and a representative U.S. division headquarters staffed by Combined Arms Center (CAC) staff and the TRADOC Experimentation Community of Practice (CoP). TS/OF10 is conducted to explore interoperability issues, identify capability gaps and provide proposed solutions to current doctrine and emerging battle command concepts.
What has the Army done'
FLOIS-C3I is co-sponsored by the U.S. HQDA G-3/5/7 and U.K. chief of staff (land) and endorsed by the U.K.-U.S. Army Staff Talks. The TRADOC Analysis Center is the U.S. study lead and they have identified information exchange requirements, issues, gaps and proposed solutions for U.K.-U.S. interoperability.
The exercise portion (TALON-STRIKE) will focus on the current force, 2010 timeframe, and addresses the FLOIS-C3I study issues. Omni Fusion will focus on the future force, 2017 timeframe, and will measure future force effectiveness against the 2010 "base case." The future force will include future capability packages, task organization enhancements, new technologies, and capability enhancements associated with improved vehicles, equipment and munitions.
TS/OF10 will examine the issues in a single, integrated simulation based experiment using an Afghanistan scenario and involves operational units, the Future Force Integration Directorate (FFID), and TRADOC CoP that will participate primarily from Fort Benning, Ga.
While past Omni Fusion experiments have included multinational elements, TS/OF10 will expand the Battle Lab Collaborative Simulation Environment (BLCSE) network allowing the U.K. to participate from their location setting the stage for future training and experiment efforts at lower costs.
What continued efforts does the Army have planned for the future'
TS/OF10 sets the stage for future interoperability experimentation efforts with the remaining ABCA members (FY11 and beyond) and later expansion to other NATO and coalition nations.
BLCSE network lessons learned will enhance pre-deployment training between nations.
Why is this important to the Army'
TS/OF10 is important because it will improve U.S.-U.K. interoperability and provide insights and recommendations regarding mission command; ultimately, improving the effectiveness of the force and saving the lives of Soldiers.
