ROCK ISLAND ARSENAL, Ill. - Sivyer Steel Corporation has signed an agreement effective today with Rock Island Arsenal Joint Manufacturing and Technology Center that will attract additional work to both facilities. The partnership is expected to strengthen and advance the foundry industry in the Quad City community.

Sivyer Steel Corporation, located in Bettendorf, operates a foundry that has expertise in casting, molding, core making and machining. In addition to other complimenting differences between the two facilities, while Sivyer pours large steel castings, RIA pours smaller steel castings. The joined forces will utilize each other\'s resources to better their respective operations.

"I'm glad we took the time to get to know each other because now we've established a relationship that's built on trust and a mutual goal for the future," said Gary Taylor, Chief, Global Business Development at RIA. "I honestly think this is the wave of the future of the Quad City area in general, and I'm glad we're a part of it."

The agreement will also help to meet Arsenal Support Program Initiative (ASPI) objectives, whose legislation has assisted in the partnership.

The expected outcomes of the agreement predict positive results for both organizations. Among them, RIA and Sivyer anticipate the production of competitively priced, high quality castings, reduced lead time, and increased workload for the foundry. In signing the agreement, the organizations have expanded the capabilities they have to offer on both military and commercial fronts.

The open collaboration and benchmarking practices of this partnership are similar to other RIA partnerships, such as those with Lockheed Martin and BAE; however, the Sivyer deal is specific to foundry operations at this time.

"The time that it took was time well spent," said Art Gibeaut, president of Sivyer Steel. "We're really glad to be here, and we're looking forward to this great opportunity."

Taylor said the initial collaboration will begin immediately, and actual work will start as soon as the first order is received.

Just before penning his signature, Commander of Rock Island Arsenal, Col. Craig Cotter stated just how this work will have an impact.

"Working with the best of private industry-working with the skill and talent of Sivyer-is going to allow us to optimize our abilities, and hopefully theirs," he said. "At the end of the day the ultimate shareholder, the ultimate beneficiary of our collaboration is the Soldier. He is the one who benefits the most from us getting this right. This is good for the community, it's good for Sivyer, and it's good for RIA."
