FORT RUCKER, Ala. -- Dog lovers can unite at Fort Rucker's WoofStock 2010, hosted by Picerne Military Housing staff for residents only April 10 from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. at the Picerne event site off Seventh Avenue in Bowden Terrace.
The first-of-its-kind event features a doggie paw print station, face painting, bouncers, snow cones, hot dogs, educational booths, dog contests and more.
Dog contest categories include dog/owner look-a-like, longest tail, smallest dog, biggest dog, most glamorous, most patriotic, most handsome, loudest bark and a Weiner dog race.
"This event focuses on our residents' love of dogs. At WoofStock, all dogs are loved; however, restricted breeds are not permitted for the safety of Families," said Amanda Filipowski, Picerne communications manager.
Picerne's Pet Policy 10.01.2009 is in accordance with the Department of the Army memo, dated Jan. 5, 2009, and Fort Rucker Regulation 40-16 Animal and Disease Prevention. The pet policy outlines what dog breeds are considered restricted in accordance with those regulations - aggressive or potentially aggressive breeds of dogs are defined as pit bulls (American Stafforshire bull terrier or English Staffordshire bull terriers), rottweilers, doberman pinschers, chows, and wolf hybrids.
Prohibition also extends to other dogs that demonstrate a propensity for dominant or aggressive behavior as indicated by any of the following types of conduct: unprovoked barking, growling or snarling at people approaching the animal; aggressively running along fence lines when people are present; biting or scratching people; or escaping confinement or restriction to chase people.
In order to prepare for the festival, Military Police will place road blocks at the ends of Donovan and Castle lanes from 10:30 a.m. to 2 p.m. to ensure residents' and pets' safety as they walk to the event site.
Pre-registration is recommended for the dog contest. Residents may enter their dogs at their neighborhood offices.
