A Commanders Conference was held for all Military District of Washington Commanders and senior staff at the Naval District of Washington on April 1, 2010. The purpose of the conference was to provide information on current and relevant operational issues for the command.

Maj. Gen. Karl R. Horst, commanding general, Joint Force Headquarters-National Capital Region and The U.S. Army Military District of Washington stated, "The commander's conference is a forum for all of us to discuss important topics. It is important we get together and synchronize all of our efforts. We need to lean forward since this is a busy season for our many official and community relations events."

Key briefings were given by Col. Richard Swengros, Director of the J3 on the commanding general's priorities and upcoming events and exercises; Phil Fowler, Division Chief, Ceremonial Activities Division, J38 on Joint Ceremonial Missions; Lt. Cmdr. Frank Okata, J35 planner on the Nuclear Security Summit; Col. Steven Lynch, Provost Marshal on the National Capital Region Military Control Board; Maj. Wilbur Barnes, chief of Emergency Preparedness on Hurricane Preparedness; and Henry Daniel, Deputy J6 gave a portal demonstration.

After the key briefings, Maj. Gen. Horst engaged the commanders and staff in cross talk to share information and ideas. Maj. Gen. Horst thanked everyone for the hard work their units accomplish each day. He addressed the need for everyone to work closely together to "synchronize training times so there would be no backlog for any requirements and to ensure we maintain the high standard of customer service our service men and women provide on a daily basis."
