Linda Bynum-Knight retired as an assistant Inspector General after 36 years of federal service on March 31, 2010 in a ceremony hosted by Maj. Gen. Karl R. Horst, commanding general and Egon Hawrylak, deputy commander of Joint Force Headquarters-National Capital Region and The U.S. Army Military District of Washington. Ms. Bynum-Knight was joined by her family Charlie (husband), Darryn (son), Darlene (daughter), Dana (daughter) and Brandi (granddaughter).
Mrs. Bynum Knight a native of Tidewater, Virginia attended business school in Washington, DC. She entered federal service as a Clerk Stenographer with the United States Army Communication Command. After working with the command for five years she moved to the Chaplain's office at Ft. McNair for the next three years of her Department of Defense service. She was promoted to the position of Post Headquarters Secretary and served in that position for 18 years.
In 1997 Ms. Bynum-Knight began to work in the Inspector General's office. In 2002, Col. (ret) Wendell Warner, who was the Inspector General, convinced her to become a part of the inspector general team. As an assistant Inspector General, Mrs. Bynum-Knight stated she has enjoyed helping other. She helped Soldiers and civilians who felt they had no place to turn and showing them the Inspector General's office could help them solve problems.
According to Col. Sandra Clark, Inspector General at Joint Force Headquarters-National Capital Region and The U.S. Army Military District of Washington, "Mrs. Bynum-Knight is quiet and unassuming but she was always ready to get the job done. She is an attention to detail employee who made a difference and will be missed."
