MARTINSVILLE, Va. (March 29, 2010) -- Ryan Newman, driving the No. 39 Haas Automation/U.S. Army Chevrolet, finished fourth in Monday's rain-delayed NASCAR Sprint Cup race at Martinsville Speedway.

It was the best result of the season for Newman, who improved four spots -- from 26th to 22nd in the driver point standings.

Newman was running second to Jeff Gordon when a late caution came out to force a green-white-checkered overtime finish. Both Gordon and Newman lost positions in the restart as Denny Hamlin snuck in to win the Goody's Fast Pain Relief 500.

Following Hamlin to the checkered flag were: Joey Logano (second), Gordon (third), Newman (fourth) and Martin Truex Jr. (fifth).

Newman's teammate, Tony Stewart, finished 26th. He is eighth in driver points.

The Sprint Cup circuit has Easter weekend off. The next Cup race is April 10 at Phoenix International Raceway.

At the rain-delayed NHRA Four-Wide Nationals at ZMax Dragway in Charlotte, U.S. Army Top Fuel teammate Antron Brown finished third in the four-car final round. Taking the Top Fuel win was Don Schumacher Racing driver Cory McClenathan. Tony Schumacher was eliminated yesterday in the second round.

The next NHRA national event is slated for April 9-11 at Houston Raceway Park in Baytown, Texas.
