PRESIDIO OF MONTEREY, Calif. Aca,!" The Presidio held an event showcasing the ground breaking of a general instruction building here March 10.
The facility will directly support the efforts of the Defense Language Institute Foreign Language Center to increase its language instruction ability.
The construction of the 47,000 square-foot instructional building, which will hold 36 classrooms, will provide a state-of-the-art learning atmosphere for service members to learn foreign languages, thereby promoting culture and language translation learning.
Additionally, the facility will have numerous academic support areas, such as faculty offices, a conference room, test-control areas, multi-purpose training areas and cultural rooms.
Construction on the GIB will begin March 22 and is scheduled for completion in November 2011. The cost is projected at $13,416,600 for the Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design (LEED) silver-level building.
The building is the second of three general instruction buildings that will be erected on the Presidio of Monterey over the next four years. The third building is planned to begin construction in fiscal year 2011 with a completion expected in 2012.
