ANNISTON ARMY DEPOT, Ala. - Marine Brig. Gen. Peter Talleri, commander of Pennsylvania-based Defense Distribution Center, visited the depot Feb. 23 to view the operations of Defense Distribution Depot Anniston, also known as DDAA.
DDAA, a tenant at the depot with 245 employees, serves as the distribution agency for combat weapons systems, small arms weapons and missile systems.
Their primary mission is to support the maintenance mission of Anniston Army Depot.
During Talleri's visit, he toured several facilities including central receiving and transportation, weapons distribution and DDAA's vehicles and artillery building.
Along the way, Talleri took a moment to speak with employees and presented coins to several individuals whose dedication to the DDAA mission made them exemplary workers.
"The depots are the organizations that support the customer and that customer, the warfighter, is our focus," said Talleri.
"I'm here to thank each and every one of the workers in Anniston for a job well done."
Talleri took command of DDC on June 20, 2008. This June, he will relinquish command to Navy Rear Adm. Thomas Traaen. Talleri told the DDAA workers he had learned more in his two years at DDC than in any other command.
"It has been an incredible ride," said Talleri.
This was Talleri's second visit to Anniston, his first being on the occasion of DDAA Commander Lt. Col. Craig King's change of command ceremony.
"Having Brig. Gen. Talleri here is a great morale boost for the DDAA team," said King. "With 25 depots spread around the globe, he is extremely busy and does not get here as often as everyone would like. The team has been working very hard, so getting recognition from the DDC Commander means a lot."
