U.S. Soldiers killed in UH-60 Black Hawk helicopter crash identified

HEIDELBERG, Germany - Three U.S. Soldiers were killed when a U.S. Army UH-60 Black Hawk helicopter attached to 1st Battalion, 214th Aviation Regiment crashed northeast of Mannheim, Germany at approximately 6:45 p.m. CET, Feb. 3.

Dead are Chief Warrant Officer 3 Gary M. Farwell, 39; CW2 Clayton M. Hickman, 32; and Spc. Matthew E. Clark, 25. All were assigned to G Company, 52nd Regiment; 1st Battalion, 214th Aviation Regiment; 12th Combat Aviation Brigade based in Stuttgart.

Farwell, a native of Utah, entered the service in 1996 and was with the unit eight months.

Hickman, a native of Tennessee, entered the service in 1997 and was with the unit five months.

Clark, a native of Shirley, Arkansas, entered the service in 2007 and was with the unit 12 months.

A memorial service will be conducted in honor of the three Soldiers. Details of the service will be announced.

The cause of the crash is currently under investigation by experts from the U.S. Army Combat Readiness Safety Center at Fort Rucker, Ala.
