PORT-AU-PRINCE, Haiti (Feb. 4, 2010) -- More than 150 Soldiers from the 10th Transportation Company, 260th Quartermaster Battalion, 3rd Sustainment Brigade deployed to Port-Au-Prince, Haiti with a 12-hour notice in support of Operation Unified Response, Jan. 23.
Their mission is to distribute needed supplies to help the Haitians recover from the effects of an earthquake that rocked the country less than two weeks ago.
As they awaited the rest of their equipment to arrive in country, the Soldiers sought other ways to assist the people of Haiti. They visited the sick at a local hospital, assisted in setting up areas for servicemembers, and handed out teddy bears that were provided by the USO for the children of Haiti.
St. Joseph's Candler Hospital partnered with the 10th Trans. Co. to provide medical supplies to the hospitals in Haiti. The partnership allowed the Soldiers more interaction with the people of Haiti. The unit is now planning a toy drive for the children of Haiti.
