CAMP STANLEY, Republic of Korea - The U.S. Army Garrison Red Cloud Better Opportunities for Single and Unaccompanied Soldiers invited all video gamers to play the latest edition of the popular Call of Duty Game, Modern Warfare 2 in their inaugural Modern Warfare 2 tournament Jan. 23 at the Camp Stanley Community Activity Center.
"We are always trying to find different ways to attract Soldiers to our events and to get the word of what the BOSS program does so the council decided on hosting a video game tournament and when it came down to deciding what game would be played almost everyone agreed Call of Duty would be the best choice," said Spc. Alexander Rock, a BOSS representative for one of the 2nd Infantry Division's unit.
The tournament had more than 30 players come out and enjoy the game at the Camp Stanley CAC and the BOSS program provided snacks for the Soldiers.
The BOSS council made a tournament bracket randomly placing each gamer in the tournament for a four player free for all match. The top two scores from the match would then advance until only four players remained. Although each of the four players would win a gift card redeemable at any Army and Air Force Exchange Services location, the competition was tough.
In the end Pfc. Kyle Tiley, a driver for 2ID, was named the winner of the tournament having more than 1,000 points over his opponents by unlocking multiple achievements during the final match and using them to his advantage to win the game.
"Overall the tournament was great," Tiley said. "I just wanted to come out and support my friends who also enjoy playing the game, and I felt bad beating them out."
"It was a lot of fun and I will definitely be at the next tournament the BOSS team organizes."
Call of Duty Modern Warfare 2 was released Nov. 10, 2009 as the sixth installment of the Call of Duty series and a direct sequel to the Call of Duty Modern Warfare as a first person shooter game designed by Infinty Ward.
The game immediately received praise from every video game magazine and has been named one of the top games of the decade, Imagine Games web site says.
