Super-smartphones

There are e-mails to check, calls to return and appointments that must be kept.

People are busy, and whether like it or not, most people need to stay connected.

Luckily, the "technology gods" picked up on our cues and have provided what can be the answer to our prayers.

Smartphones and their upgraded cousins, super-smartphones, are cell phones that function like mini computers and fit in your pocket.

The recent release of the Google Nexus One, which rivals the Apple iPhone, is evidence of the push to impress the super-smartphone consumer.

Touchscreen interfacing, digital music storage and playback, the ability to take and watch videos and quick access to GPS navigation are just some of the features that make smartphones appealing to people on the go.

PX Sprint kiosk manager Yvette Debro said the store has 13 smartphones available that can do everything from create and edit Word documents to send and receive e-mails and text messages to check the weather.

"The difference in smartphones is the capabilities," she said. "People can be away from the office and still be able to be productive."

Similar to computers, most have full keyboards for typing, and applications can be downloaded from the phone to the home screen to save even more time.

"They are very convenient in the business world," Debro said. "The majority of military people want smartphones. They want the latest and the greatest devices."

Although there is an increase in the initial investment to get a smartphone, she said most people feel it's worth it because it ultimately pays for itself.

And when you're finished checking your e-mail, updating your Facebook and following your phone's directions to a new restaurant, you may need to be reminded that your smartphone can actually make phone calls, too.
