WEST POINT, N.Y. (Dec. 18, 2009) - Army defensive end Josh McNary was selected to a pair of All-America teams, copping third-team laurels from CollegeFootballNews.com and honorable mention honors from Sports Illustrated.
McNary is the first Black Knight to earn All-America accolades since Jeremy Trimble earned honorable mention recognition from Sports Illustrated as a punt returner in 2007.
McNary set an Academy record with 12.5 sacks. His 1.04 sacks per game average ranks fourth in the nation heading into the bowl season. The Houston native's 22.5 tackles for loss ranked third on the Army single-season ledger, while his 1.88 per game average was tied for the second best in the nation.
McNary finished the 2009 season ranked fifth on the Black Knights with 65 total tackles. He also broke up two passes, forced two fumbles and recovered a fumble.
In addition to his single-season numbers, McNary will enter his senior season as the academy's career record holder with 18 sacks. He set the school record for single-game sacks with four quarterback takedowns at Temple Oct. 17.
Army finished its 2009 season with a 5-7 record, its highest win total sine going 10-2 in 1996.
