FORT BENNING, Ga. - Hardaway High School (Region 1B-AAAA) soared past Spencer High School (5-AA) 90-37 Tuesday at Spencer High School.
The Lady Hawks got off to a fast start, putting 17 points on the scoreboard while their defense limited the Lady Greenwave to one point. At the end of the first period, Hardaway led 24-5.
Spencer attempted to close the gap in the second period, but the Lady Hawks outscored the Lady Greenwave 24-18 to lead 49-19 at the half.
The Hawks kept up the scoring onslaught finishing the third period with a 30-point lead and cruising to a 90-37 win.
"In past games, we haven't been shooting the ball well, but we have our rhythm back," said Lady Hawks assistant coach Jeffery Todd, who works for the U.S. Army Marksmanship Unit. "We worked well as a team, played good man-to-man defense, shared the ball and everyone scored."
Freshman Alexcia McNeal, a guard and forward, said she was pleased with the results, but the team still has work to do.
"We had a lot of good shots, good passes and good defense, but we need to still work on being patient and throwing screens," she said. "We will keep working on improving our skills."
Junior Olivia Staley said her team worked well together to get the win.
"We worked good on offense, hustled and we tried our best," she said.
The Lady Hawks are now 3-2 and will take on Wesleyan (7N-A) at 7 p.m. today in Norcross, Ga.
The Lady Greenwave will take on Carver (2-AAA) at 6 p.m. today at home.
