REDSTONE ARSENAL, Ala.Aca,!"Safety took center stage on Friday, Nov. 20, at the U.S. Army Space and Missile Defense Command/Army Forces Strategic Command (USASMDC/ARSTRAT) here when Commanding General Lt. Gen. Kevin T. Campbell hosted the annual command safety council meeting for all senior leaders. Staff principles, deputy chiefs of staff, and members of the senior executive service (SES) all gathered as Campbell spoke about the importance of safety at USASMDC/ARSTRAT.
Aca,!A"It is terribly important to stress safety,Aca,!A? stated Campbell, who has made the issue one of his top command priorities. Aca,!A"ItAca,!a,,cs as much about what people do during their off time as on duty.Aca,!A?
Randy Joyner, command safety director, presented multiple slides on the accident rates within the command. He stressed that although they appear to be low, it is a goal of the safety office to encourage more efficient accident reporting.
Command representatives from Colorado Spring, Colo; Fort Greely, Alaska; Kwajalein Atoll; and the High Energy Laser Systems Test Facility (HELSTF) in White Sands, N.M., all participated via video teleconference. An award presentation to HELSTF also took place, recognizing them for the incredible feat of five consecutive years with no accidents.
Campbell later discussed particular issues at different venues, including weather hazards, ATV (all terrain vehicle) safety, and the necessity for programs to prevent alcohol-related accidents.
