ROCK ISLAND, Ill. - The commanding general of the TACOM Life Cycle Management Command, Maj. Gen. William M. Lenaers, presented the 2007 TACOM LCMC Noncommissioned Officer of the Year award to SFC Keven Nelson at a luncheon held at the Rock Island Arsenal Golf Club April 19.
The announcement followed a four-day competition led by Command Sgt. Maj. Otis N. Cuffee at Rock Island Arsenal, April 16-19.
SFC Nelson serves as a 92A40 site manager with the Materiel Fielding Team at Fort Carson, Colo.
"This is not just a competition," said Cuffee. "It is the culmination of the work a Soldier does honing their warfighter skills in order to be the best. It allows Soldiers to prove themselves, to stand out, and to excel. This program promotes self-study and development. Army Strong!"
Competition events ranged from a six mile ruck march, weapons maintenance, warrior tasks and drills to zeroing and firing the M16 rifle for qualification.
"I would like to thank Command Sgt. Maj. Cuffee and 1st Sgt. Jones for giving me the opportunity to compete and my wife Nancy and my kids for standing behind me," said Nelson. "I would also like to thank all of the NCOs that supported the event. Last, I would say to the individuals that were in the competition great job, and continue to excel, SSG Sherman, SSG Goode."
Nelson received an Army Commendation Medal, gift certificate from the Association of the United States Army, a bust of a Soldier, a savings bond from Morale, Welfare and Recreation, a bag of goodies (scopes, night lights and other Soldier gear). He will advance to the U.S. Army Materiel Command competition July 15-20 at Fort Belvoir, Va.
