October is Cybersecurity Awareness Month, an annual reminder that protecting digital information is a shared responsibility. This year’s theme, “Securing the Next 250,” highlights the importance of keeping the nation’s information and technology secure as the country looks toward its future.
Sean Hannan, Tobyhanna Army Depot’s Cyber Security Enterprise Branch chief, highlighted a message from the Cybersecurity and Infrastructure Security Agency that reinforces the importance of staying vigilant.
“For over 20 years, this awareness campaign has highlighted the importance of taking regular action to reduce risks when online and using connected devices,” the Cybersecurity and Infrastructure Security Agency states. The agency’s 2026 theme, “Securing the Next 250,” emphasizes the need to act now as cyber threats become faster and more sophisticated, including attempts powered by artificial intelligence to identify and exploit vulnerabilities.
At Tobyhanna Army Depot, cybersecurity is an important part of mission readiness. The depot provides C5ISR support to the joint warfighter, and protecting the systems and information behind that work helps ensure the mission can continue without interruption.
Employees can help protect Army networks by following a few basic cybersecurity practices throughout the year.
Keep software updated. Software updates often address security vulnerabilities that could otherwise leave devices exposed to threats. Install updates promptly and check Software Center or Company Portal regularly for available updates.
Use strong passwords and multifactor authentication. Avoid reusing passwords across accounts, and consider an approved password manager to keep credentials organized. Multifactor authentication (MFA) provides an additional layer of protection, even if a password is compromised. Never approve an authentication request you did not initiate.
Think before clicking. Phishing emails can look legitimate and may attempt to trick users into opening attachments, clicking links or sharing sensitive information. Watch for unexpected messages, unusual requests and language designed to create urgency. If an email seems suspicious, do not forward it. Contact the appropriate cybersecurity personnel for instructions.
Protect important information. Follow established procedures when storing, sharing and transmitting government information. Only use approved systems and share information with authorized individuals. Employees should also follow applicable requirements for backing up data and encrypting information or devices.
Know how to report a potential incident. If you suspect a cybersecurity incident involving government-furnished equipment, contact the CSEB Incident Response Team at extension X5-0252 or email AMC-CECOM-TYADCyberSecurityIncidents@army.mil. Contact the team directly for guidance rather than forwarding suspicious emails.
Employees can find additional information in the Cybersecurity Awareness Month 2026 slides and other resources available on the CSEB SharePoint page.
Cybersecurity takes more than technical safeguards. Staying alert, following established procedures and reporting suspicious activity can help protect the information and systems Tobyhanna relies on every day.
Tobyhanna Army Depot is designated as the Center of Industrial and Technical Excellence for Command, Control, Communications, Computers, Intelligence, Surveillance and Reconnaissance, electronics, avionics, and missile guidance and control. TYAD provides cradle-to-grave lifecycle support through depot-level repair, systems integration, software and cyber engineering, and field support.
A key enabler of operational readiness for joint and allied forces globally, TYAD leverages new and emerging technologies to further expand the Department of War’s organic capabilities for microelectronics, secure communications infrastructure, unmanned aerial systems, joint all-domain command and control, integrated air and missile defense and the Army’s Next Generation Combat Systems.
TYAD’s ability to rapidly surge production, deploy field support teams and scale for contingency or theater-level operations makes it a vital contributor to strategic readiness and operational reach.
