The 120th Adjutant General Battalion (Reception) recognized the Directorate of Human Resources for its ability “to solve problems,” Sept. 22, 2026.
Lt. Col. Chinyere Sturghill, the Reception Battalion commander, lauded DHR’s ability “to help us at points of friction and get solutions to get trainees out of the military in a dignified and respectful manner.”
The interaction between civilians and Soldier is a necessary part of readiness.
The Reception Battalion’s mission is to receive, process, motivate and begin the transformation of Army accessions, prior service, Initial Entry Training, and transitioning Soldiers to training, the operational Army, and the civilian sector.
This can’t be accomplished without Department of the Army Civilians.
Sturghill said “it’s usually understated, but there is no there is no joint force without the military arm and the civilian arm.
“Our civilians are a continuity, and sometimes they bring a breadth of experience and knowledge green suiters know nothing about. So having them in place helps us serve the community better, helps make our Army better, and our joint force better.”
Sturghill thanked them because their work routinely goes unnoticed.
“The bottom line is just saying thank you because their job is thankless, and most times they do so much with so little,” she said. “They always receive complaints instead of a thank you, and I wanted to let them know they were appreciated.”
Sarrah Carter, chief of the Military Personnel Division, said she truly appreciated being recognized.
“As long as we’re here, we continue to help the team,” she said to Sturghill. “If you need anything, as long as we can make it happen, we’ll make it happen.”
