Best Ranger Competition

By Airborne and Ranger Training Brigade OperationsOctober 20, 2026

The 2027 Best Ranger Competition, is the 43rd annual iteration of this grueling competition, starring the best soldiers in the world, our United States Army RANGERS!

The Best Ranger Competition was started in 1982 after Dick Leandri found a way to honor his personal friend and Ranger legend, Lieutenant General (R) David E. Grange, Jr.

The competition has evolved over the past forty years from a competition that was originally created to salute the best two-man "buddy" team in the Ranger Department at Fort Benning, GA to today, where we determine the best two-man team from the entire United States Armed Forces.

The Airborne and Ranger Training Brigade plans and executes the 43rd Annual David E. Grange Jr. Best Ranger Competition at FBGA from 09-11 APR 2027 IOT identify the most physically fit, mentally tough, and tactically competent Ranger team in the world.
