Fort Benning, Ga. - The American Education Week College Fair promises to be a "one-stop shop" for anyone interested in adult education.
The college fair will be from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Nov. 18 at the Main Post Exchange.
"It is an opportunity to bring together colleges, financial institutions, educational services, ROTC, Green to Gold, and all other aspects of adult education," said Brian Smith, chief of workforce development for the Directorate of Human Resources.
Representatives from eight colleges will be available to discuss opportunities and answer questions. The attending colleges will be Georgia Military College, Columbus State University, Columbus Technical College, Vincennes University, Chattahoochee Valley Community College, Troy University, American Military University and the University of Phoenix.
Other representatives will have information on the Career Advancement Account, a scholarship program for military spouses, Troops to Teachers, Post 9/11 G.I. Bill benefits and Army Emergency Relief college funds. School liaisons will be available to talk with high school students interested in making the transition to college.
"Normally, you may have to make three or four phone calls and go to two or three different places to get the information you need," Smith said. "But at the college fair you can meet with representatives face to face and get your questions answered."
Shannon Gardner, program manager for Army Continuing Education Services, said the most important thing people should bring is an open mind.
Smith recommended participants bring a list of questions and what their education goals and interests are.
The college fair is open to military and Department of the Army personnel and their families.
