Introduction by TLLM-Army Director, COL Paul Godson
Welcome to our first issue of Trend Line! The security landscape is changing rapidly, and the Army is adapting alongside it. To meet this moment, the Center for Army Lessons Learned (CALL) has officially evolved into the Transformation and Lessons Learned Manager-Army (TLLM-Army). Our objective is to provide the operational force the best practices needed to fight and win tonight while simultaneously driving change by solving problems thru the institutional Army, all at the speed of modern war.
My vision is to create a TLLM-Army that is a proactive and evidence-based lessons learned organization that seamlessly connects the operational force’s experiences with institutional adaptation, driving continuous improvement across the DOTMLPF-P ecosystem.
Every issue of Trend Line is built on a simple, powerful foundation: you have a problem and we have the solution. This quarterly publication bypasses high-level theory to deliver concise actionable recommendations directly to tactical commanders and the Soldier at the tactical edge.
This issue delivers immediate usable lessons on critical modern battlefield challenges ranging from battlefield power management to decentralized airspace management. Additionally, we have included links to podcasts and supplemental products to further assist you as you train to fight and win.
The first article in this issue, The Evolution from CALL to the TLLM Framework, reminds us that modern warfare requires us to be able to adapt faster than our adversaries. The key to adapting faster is sharing the knowledge of how to succeed and solving the issues that prevent success.
Trend Line is one effort to achieve this purpose by sharing best practices on a variety of subjects with you so you can continuously improve. On our end, TLLM-Army will proactively seek out those best practices and push them to you to adapt and use for your formations. This is only the beginning. Expect the next issue in November 2026, with subsequent releases arriving every three months.
I encourage you to share this publication across your formations. The insights contained within these pages are meant to be put to work immediately. TLLM-Army is proud to stand alongside you as we drive continuous improvement and secure the success of our Soldiers on the battlefields of today and tomorrow.
