The annual Army Disaster Personnel Accountability and Assessment System exercise is approaching in early September for those on post.
“(ADPASS) is a critical system for the Army because it enables commanders to rapidly locate, identify, and account for personnel – including Department of Army civilians, non-appropriated fund employees, contractors and their families – immediately following a disaster,” Brian Reinwald, chief of Redstone’s Protection Division, said.
“This includes Soldiers from all three components – Active, Guard and Reserve –, … overseas contractors, and both eligible and non-eligible Defense Enrollment Eligibility Reporting System family members, ensuring no one is left behind during a crisis,” Reinwald added.
For 21 years, the assessment system has covered the “total Army family.” First implemented after Hurricane Katrina, the system has gone through updates to further protect the family that fights for this nation.
The system has gotten a new “modernized design,” which makes their site easier to navigate; this update also supports ease in reporting a disaster. The homepage of the site has been updated, making it easier for users to access system and installation announcements.
Those registered in the system or those that are looking to register can access the webpage. When signing up or signing in, common access card or other DOW ID information can be used, as it’s considered the safest option when protecting sensitive information. Those that use a DOW ID and password to log in will have “limited access.”
The system itself lets users update their contact information, emergency contact information, add a “displaced (safe haven) location,” or update their personnel status. This can be completed on the “my info” tab.
To report an event, users will go to the “open” icon, pick their status and select the “needs assessment” option. From there, a survey will be done on what needs to be assessed and upon submission of the survey, the event is reported.
When an assessment is completed, a case manager will contact the submitter through the contact information added in the “my info” tab.
“This provides leadership with real-time data to prioritize and direct emergency resources and assistance to the exact personnel and areas that need it most,” Reinwald said.
For those that are in spaces where cell phones are prohibited, the system can be accessed through government issued computers or devices.
