TOBYHANNA, Pa. – The enduring bond between Tobyhanna Army Depot and America’s warriors was on full display this past weekend.

More than 150 veterans gathered on Aug. 15 for the organization’s annual Military Retiree Appreciation Day. The event successfully streamlined access to vital resources, offering attendees comprehensive benefits counseling, seminars and information booths.

The event kicked off with remarks from Depot Commander Col. Benjamin L. Kilgore, who thanked the attendees for their past service and sacrifices.

“You are part of a long line of patriots who stepped up to defend our freedoms, and because of your courage, our nation remains strong and secure,” adding that Tobyhanna’s mission is to continue supporting joint warfighters, just like them.

“As Americans, it is our enduring obligation to stand behind our veterans—now and in the years to come. This commitment is the driving force behind everything we do here at Tobyhanna Army Depot. Every day, our dedicated workforce works tirelessly to deliver unmatched support to warfighters across all six military branches.

Here at Tobyhanna, we take immense pride in advancing the legacy you built. We ensure that today’s warfighters are equipped with the absolute best tools and technology required to succeed on the modern battlefield,” Kilgore remarked.

Following Kilgore’s remarks and a ceremony recognizing the six branches of the U.S. armed forces, attendees took part in seminars, met with service providers and shared a meal.

The event provided the opportunity for Tobyhanna’s new Sergeant Major, Cory P. Alkire, to meaningfully engage with Northeastern Pennsylvania’s retiree community. He said community-focused engagement serves an important purpose.

“I feel that events that tie us into the community, the very people we serve, and whose support we rely upon, are vital. We serve only because of those who served before us. To meet such a vibrant and passionate segment of our community is a privilege, and one I will continually look forward to,” adding that the event was a success in large part to teamwork.

“I'd like to offer my congratulations to the Tobyhanna team – Army Community Service (ACS) and Morale, Welfare and Recreation – as well as our partners, TRICARE, Veterans Affairs, and U.S. Family Health Care for a fantastic event,” Alkire said.

Tobyhanna Army Depot’s ACS team provides warfighters, military retirees, Department of War civilians, and their families with a variety of services ranging from educational events to career counseling to mobilization assistance and more. For more information about services, contact an ACS specialist at 570-615-8371.
