FORT KNOX, Ky. — The future of U.S. Army leadership is forged at Cadet Summer Training. Lt. Gen. Johnny Davis, commanding general, U.S. Army Recruiting Command, addressed the nation's next generation of leaders during the 4th Regiment Advanced Camp graduation on July 17.
During his keynote address, Davis praised the cadets for enduring the unpredictable environment of Kentucky with heat, humidity, floods, early mornings and late nights.
"It wasn't easy, but you did it," Davis told the formation.
Advanced Camp tests cadets physically and mentally, providing training in basic rifle marksmanship, first aid, and land navigation. Through this, they build upon their critical thinking, problem solving and leadership skills. Cadet Summer Training is a rite of passage where cadets forge bonds with their squad and platoon mates. Davis recalled his own experience at Cadet Summer Training more than 36 years ago, "I will never forget the lifelong friendships," Davis said.
As these warriors prepare to earn their U.S. Army commission, Davis offered words of advice for their journey. He urged them to commit to continuous growth, own their mistakes and use them as steppingstones, seek out mentors to challenge and inspire them, listen to their noncommissioned officer and never be afraid to lead.
The U.S. Army Cadet Command continues to transform college students into exceptional military officers. The 4th Regiment's graduation is a testament to the power of the ROTC program. As these leaders navigate the Force Generation Pipeline, they stand ready to define the future of the force and inspire Soldiers.
