Synopsis
Leaders from the 6th Brigade Engineer Battalion (BEB) developed a highly successful 36-month Lieutenant development program. This program used a certification checklist, rotating leadership assignments, and a ‘Lieutenant of the Week’ model to prepare junior officers for future company command and staff positions.
The Army invests heavily in developing future leaders. Army Regulation (AR) 350-1, Army Training and Leader Development, directs commanders at all levels to plan, resource, execute, and assess leader development as part of their overall unit training plan. This document provides the blueprint for this incredibly successful program, with feedback and potential improvements as well.
