WASHINGTON — The Army is advancing readiness reporting through the development of the Military Occupational Specialty (MOS) Health Dashboard, a data‑driven tool designed to provide leaders real‑time visibility into the strength, readiness, and sustainability of specialties across the force. A part of the Human Resource Continuous Transformation initiative, integrated within Vantage, the dashboard enables senior leaders to anticipate talent gaps, align resources, and ensure the Army remains prepared to meet future operational demands.
Maintaining a healthy distribution of skills across the force has long been a complex challenge. Leaders must balance recruiting, training, retention, and career progression to ensure each specialty is properly manned. Historically, this data has been dispersed across multiple systems, limiting the Army’s ability to assess readiness holistically.
“The dashboard is a major step toward a fully modernized personnel enterprise,” said Brig. Gen. Gregory Johnson, Director of Military Personnel Management, Army G-1. “As we continue to refine and expand its capabilities, the Army will be better positioned to forecast talent needs and sustain readiness across the force.”
The dashboard integrates data from the Integrated Personnel and Pay System – Army (IPPS-A) and other personnel systems into Vantage, creating a single, authoritative view of MOS health across the force. It enables leaders to assess current conditions and make timely adjustments to sustain readiness.
Key capabilities of the dashboard include visibility into the Army’s personnel strength and manning levels, soldier trainee progress in Basic Combat Training (BCT) and Advanced Individual Training (AIT), soldier retention and attrition trends, forecasted personnel shortages and surpluses, and the impact of incentive programs on the Army's Personnel Health by MOS.
By integrating these data sources, the Army can identify emerging gaps earlier, evaluate the effectiveness of talent management efforts, and adjust recruiting and training priorities as needed.
“The Army needs a clear, accurate, and timely understanding of its readiness posture,” said Col. Angela Chipman, Chief of Military Personnel Accessions & Retention Division, Army G-1. “The MOS Health Dashboard provides that clarity by consolidating the recruitment and retention data leaders rely on to make informed decisions.”
The MOS Health Dashboard is currently undergoing refinement based on feedback from senior leaders across Headquarters, Department of the Army and Human Resources Command. Ongoing development efforts are focused on ensuring the tool aligns with operational requirements and supports a more integrated personnel enterprise.
Future enhancements will include predictive analytics, expanded data sources, and automated alerts to further improve decision-making speed and accuracy.
“This is about giving leaders the ability to see across the force,” said Col. Frank Pena, Chief of Total Army Readiness Division, Army G-1. “With accurate and timely information, leaders can act earlier and take a more proactive approach to building combat readiness.”
