GRAFENWÖHR, Germany — U.S. Army Spc. Kevin Jones, assigned to Headquarters and Headquarters Battery (HHB), 41st Field Artillery Brigade (FAB), represented the brigade and the U.S. Army during a Memorial Day commemoration at the Brittany American Cemetery in France on May 24, 2026, and later competed in the V Corps Best Squad Competition in the Grafenwöhr Training Area from June 8 to 11, 2026, demonstrating the professionalism, readiness and commitment expected of Soldiers serving across the European theater.
The Memorial Day observance brought together U.S. service members, allied partners, local officials and community members to honor the service members who made the ultimate sacrifice during World War II. Conducted at the Brittany American Cemetery, the ceremony reinforced the enduring partnership between the United States and its allies while preserving the legacy of those who fought and died in defense of freedom.
As a member of the color guard, Jones participated in the rendering of military honors during the commemorative event, supporting the Army's commitment to honoring the nation's fallen and maintaining military traditions. The ceremony provided an opportunity for Soldiers to represent the United States Army abroad while strengthening relationships with host-nation communities and partner nations.
"The ceremony was a once in a lifetime opportunity that I was grateful to be a part of," said Jones. "To honor the fallen while representing something bigger than myself, underscores the meaning of service and sacrifice."
The event highlighted the Army's continued dedication to remembrance, stewardship and international engagement throughout Europe. Through ceremonial support missions such as Memorial Day commemorations, Soldiers reinforce the shared history and enduring bonds between the United States and allied nations forged through decades of cooperation and sacrifice.
Following the commemorative mission, Jones represented HHB, 41st FAB, during V Corps' Best Squad Competition, a multi-day event designed to assess Soldier lethality, physical fitness, technical proficiency and leadership under demanding conditions. The competition challenged participants through a series of events focused on warrior tasks and battle drills, weapons proficiency, physical endurance and tactical decision-making.
"The competition enabled me to push my physical and mental capabilities to new limits," said Jones. "Working together with my squad and competing against the top Soldiers in V Corps provided the opportunity to improve myself as a Soldier and a leader for my team."

The competition brought together top-performing Soldiers from across the corps to evaluate readiness and identify individuals who exemplify Army standards. Through realistic and physically demanding scenarios, competitors demonstrated their ability to operate effectively in complex environments while maintaining discipline, resilience and mission focus.
Jones' participation in both the international commemorative mission and the V Corps-level competition reflects his dedication to excellence and commitment to the Army profession. His accomplishments highlight and reinforce the readiness and professionalism of Soldiers assigned to the 41st Field Artillery Brigade.
