With only three weeks remaining in the transportation peak season, the 405th Army Field Support Brigade is reminding the Europe military community of the critical—and often unseen—work that keeps household goods moving and invoices flowing during the busiest time of the year.
Peak season is the predictable period each year when freight demand surges and shipping capacity tightens. The surge is driven largely by Service Members executing permanent change of station, or PCS, moves. As Service Members PCS, the volume of invoices processed for Household Goods (HHG) climbs sharply, placing added demand on the teams responsible for moving families and settling accounts.
"It's peak PCS season, and we want everyone to be aware -- the Service M
ember, the spouse, even the family dog," said Mr. Reginald King, the 405th Transportation Director.
Who Supports Your Move
Transportation services across Europe are delivered through a network of organizations, including the 405th AFSB EUCOM, BASEOPS Transportation, the Logistics Readiness Centers (LRC), and the Air Force's 86th Logistics Readiness Squadron (LRS). Every installation across Europe is supported by an LRC or an LRS that assists with HHG relocations.
"Your servicing LRC is your point of contact for all transportation concerns," King said.
The invoicing branch—identified as GBLOC WKAS and located on Daenner Kaserne in Kaiserslautern, Germany—serves as the financial backbone of the personal property mission. The 405th Transportation Director is Mr. Reginald W. King, the 405th Commander is Col. Ernest L. Lane, and the 86th LRS Director is Ms. Jodi Fellah.
The Mission Behind the Numbers
The invoicing branch is responsible for the accurate, timely, and accountable financial processing of personal property invoices. In doing so, the team directly supports Service Members, families, and industry partners during household moves and mission-critical shipments.
That support reaches all Service Members and families executing HHG relocations, as well as Transportation Service Providers (TSPs) and industry partners.
The scope of the work is significant. In fiscal year 2025, the branch executed more than $103.8 million in payments across 203,895 line items. Throughout that effort, the team ensured the financial oversight, verification, and processing of personal property invoices aligned with government bill of lading (GBL) transactions—underscoring why Service Members' orders and accurate Lines of Accounting (LOAs) are so important.
Remarkably, this mission is carried out by a team of just five personnel.
"It's critical that we work with Transportation Service Providers, industry partners, and the DoD community by providing reliable financial support for this critical mission," King said.
The branch also works alongside U.S. Transportation Command (USTRANSCOM), the Defense Finance and Accounting Service (DFAS), TSPs, and DoD service branches to keep the mission on track.
For King, that effort ties directly to broader Department priorities.
"We take the Secretary of War's ongoing initiative not just to heart but into action; information awareness and improving the PCS experience for everyone is our top priority," King said.
