GRAFENWÖHR, Germany — Sgt. Nyakeh Bassie, a unit supply specialist assigned to Alpha Battery, 1st Battalion, 6th Field Artillery Regiment, 41st Field Artillery Brigade, capped a remarkable month of achievement marked by academic excellence, physical dominance, and an unwavering dedication to his unit's mission.
During a recent training cycle, Bassie attended Advanced Leader Course, where he distinguished himself among his peers by graduating as the class Honor Graduate and earning the coveted title of Iron Soldier, all while successfully managing Alpha Battery's supply operations from afar.
Bassie's time at the Advanced Leader Course tested both his tactical knowledge and physical endurance. The course is a critical step in the Noncommissioned Officer Professional Development System, designed to prepare NCOs to lead at the squad and platoon levels. By claiming both the Honor Graduate and Iron Soldier titles, Bassie proved his comprehensive readiness, mastering both the academic curriculum and the physical requirements of the course.
"Most Soldiers come back from ALC proud just to have a diploma. Sgt. Bassie came back with the top two awards in the course and a battery that never missed a beat while he was gone," said 1st Lt. Wrinkle-Garcia, Alpha Battery Executive Officer. "That tells you everything you need to know about his work ethic and his loyalty to his Soldiers."
While many Soldiers focus solely on the curriculum of the Advanced Leader Course, Bassie's commitment to his unit never wavered. Throughout the course, he worked remotely to manage one of a supply sergeant's most daunting tasks: a unit change of command.
Despite the distance and his own heavy course load, Bassie provided constant guidance, mentorship, and refinement to his supply clerk. His remote leadership ensured the battery's property accountability remained flawless and the change of command transition ran smoothly without any degradation to operational readiness.
As Bassie returns to his regular duties, he continues to represent the elite standards of the 41st Field Artillery Brigade and the broader NCO corps. His recent accomplishments underscore the brigade's commitment to developing disciplined, resilient, and multi-capable leaders ready to support the mission across the European theater.
