Forward

The purpose of this guide is to assist small unit leaders and Soldiers with the emerging principles, training strategies, techniques, and other considerations needed for gaining technological fluency. Given the rate of technological advancements, units need to adapt by leveraging and integrating new technologies into the fight faster than the enemy. The fundamentals and traditional training strategies and approaches like the 8-step training model or the crawl, walk, run methodology remain relevant. However, transformation in contact (TiC) requires a paradigm shift, including innovative and flexible training methodologies. We need to think in terms of “stacking” innovative technologies to modify existing tactics, techniques, and procedures. In many cases a clever technological solution may very well be a game changer on the battlefield. Every leader and Soldier in every unit has a role in leveraging technology to solve tactical problems. We need every Soldier and leader to become technologically fluent. The bottom line is that the battlefield is constantly evolving. We are empowering small unit leaders and Soldiers to help our Army in developing emerging tactics, techniques, and procedures with new technology to maintain our competitive advantage and, if needed, decisively winning future wars.
