Construction projects take money, and there are only so many dollars to go around. Redstone enables tenant organizations to elect which projects should receive priority.
About 60 people attended the 90-minute meeting which included brief presentations on ongoing projects May 13 at the Community Activity Center. The voting board is limited to 17 Army organizations, of which 13 attended and left their ballots on project support. The attendees
were reminded to also work with their respective commands which determine their organization’s priorities.
“The real property planning board held its semiannual meeting to review ongoing installation growth projects,” Jay Howell, community planner in the Garrison’s Directorate of Public Works master planning division, said. “And then vote on a recommended prioritization of future projects for congressional funding.
“Most of the projects that were voted on today won’t receive construction money for at least five years. Setting these priorities now, though, helps direct preliminary funds for analysis and design much sooner.”
He and co-workers collected ballots from each table in the auditorium room for tabulation. This was the spring meeting of the real property planning board which is one of several working boards that feed the installation planning board, led by Redstone Senior Commander Lt. Gen. Gavin Lawrence.
“The real property planning board is an essential part of our community here,” Garrison Commander Col. Erin Eike said.
Voting results indicated that several projects currently in the funding pipeline continue to receive significant support. This is important since projects scheduled for funding could still be lost if certain thresholds are not met.
One newcomer, a combined fire and police station with other services included, also garnered strong support.
The next step will be for the senior commander to endorse the results, Howell said.
