Armor One Station Unit Training (OSUT) is a 18-week evolution that transforms civilian volunteers into disciplined, physically fit, and lethal Armor Soldiers and Cavalry Scouts. This comprehensive training pipeline combines Basic Combat Training (BCT) and Advanced Individual Training (AIT), ensuring trainees develop the resilience and technical proficiency required to dominate the modern battlefield.

Phase I: Basic Combat Training (BCT) – "Turning Green"

The first phase focuses on the transition from civilian to Soldier. Under the mentorship of professional Drill Sergeants, trainees are introduced to the Army Values: Loyalty, Duty, Respect, Selfless Service, Honor, Integrity, and Personal Courage. Trainees undergo intense physical conditioning, navigate obstacle courses, and master the fundamentals of rifle marksmanship.

  • The Milestone: The completion of the BCT portion is marked by the "Turning Green" ceremony. This signifies that the trainee has mastered basic Soldiering skills and is ready to progress to specialized Armor or Cavalry training.
Phase II: Advanced Individual Training (AIT)

Following the BCT phase, the focus shifts to the specialized skills of the Armor Branch. In this second portion of OSUT, trainees hone their lethality through:

  • Weapon Systems: Mastering individual weapons and the heavy firepower of armored vehicle platforms.
  • Tactical Maneuver: Learning to move and communicate as part of a crew while navigating the varied terrain of Fort Benning.
  • Field Operations: Executing reconnaissance, security, and maneuver tactics while operating under the stars for multiple consecutive nights.

The Final Transition: Family Day and Graduation

The 18-week journey culminates in a two-day celebration of achievement.

  • Family Day: Following the completion of the final field exercises, Soldiers are reunited with their loved ones. This day allows families to see the transformation firsthand and spend time with their loved ones.
  • Graduation Ceremony: The following morning, the formal Graduation Ceremony is held. These Soldiers leave Fort Benning not just as graduates, but as the world's premier mounted force.
