U.S. Army Western Hemisphere Institute for Security Cooperation Joins New U.S. Army Western Hemisphere Command

FORT BENNING, GA – The U.S. Army Western Hemisphere Institute for Security Cooperation has formally completed its realignment as a direct-reporting unit to the recently established U.S. Army Western Hemisphere Command.

The establishment of USAWHC in December 2025 was part of a comprehensive U.S. Army transformation initiative. The command move is designed to streamline force structure, enhance strategic readiness and support U.S. Northern Command and U.S. Southern Command. The establishment of USAWHC consolidates the former U.S. Army Forces Command, U.S. Army North, and U.S. Army South to unify security cooperation efforts throughout the Western Hemisphere.

Placing WHINSEC within USAWHC ensures that WHINSEC’s own security cooperation mission, characterized by internationally recognized professional military education and training programs, is fully aligned with the U.S. Army’s strategic security cooperation objectives in the region.

WHINSEC’s seamless transition to USAWHC, which began in early October 2025, ensured that WHINSEC continued delivering results on its vital mission of providing professional education and training to military, police, and civilian security students from the United States and over a dozen Partner Nations from the Western Hemisphere.

"This realignment marks a tremendous milestone for WHINSEC and our partners across the hemisphere," said Col. Eldridge R. Singleton, Commandant of WHINSEC." Joining the U.S. Army Western Hemisphere Command enhances our ability to build and sustain security partnerships. WHINSEC’s core mission remains unchanged: fostering world-class military education and training that builds trust and interoperability with Partner Nation forces, ensuring that other democratic countries in the Western Hemisphere join the United States in confronting shared challenges that affect us all. This transition strengthens our efforts to ensure regional stability and international security.”

WHINSEC’s leadership has emphasized its commitment to preserving all academic and institutional accreditations, ensuring the high quality of its courses and programs.

WHINSEC was previously a subordinate unit of the U.S. Army Combined Arms Center, part of the U.S. Army Training and Doctrine Command, and provides professional military education and training to military, police, and civilian defense/security personnel from Partner Nations throughout the Western Hemisphere. Its curriculum focuses on strengthening regional cooperation to address shared security challenges. In Fiscal Year 2025, WHINSEC graduated 781 students from over a dozen countries. Since opening in January 2001, WHINSEC has graduated over 37,000 students from over 30 countries.
