Tobyhanna Army Depot presented Outstanding Active-Duty Servicemember awards to Spc. Alexavier L. Munoz and Sgt. 1st Class Jashual Vazquez Saturday, Feb. 21.
An in-game presentation took place during the Wilkes-Barre/Scranton Penguins’ Military Appreciation Night, which brought the two deserving recipients face to face with thousands of members of the community they faithfully serve.
Both Munoz and Vazquez have direct ties to Tobyhanna Army Depot and the community it serves. Munoz has served among the ranks of Team Tobyhanna as a Military Police Officer since Oct. 2024.
In nominating Munoz for this recognition, his leadership hailed his tactical and technical skill in providing installation safety, security and protection.
Supervisory Police Officer Lt. Jason Warner said Munoz represents the best qualities of a Military Police Officer.
“Spc. Alexavier Munoz exemplifies the professionalism, dedication, and warrior ethos that define today’s Army,” said Warner. “Serving at Tobyhanna Army Depot, he delivers exceptional Military Police support to both the workforce and residents. His commitment to excellence, teamwork, and mission success truly sets the bar for others to follow.”
Munoz said this recognition is a validation of his commitment to the safety of Tobyhanna Army Depot and its surrounding community. He shares the award with his entire team.
“Being honored as an outstanding active-duty service member means knowing the long hours and the commitment to something bigger than myself truly mattered. The award really isn't about just me but the whole team beside me, the standards we uphold, and the responsibilities we proudly carry every day.”
Vazquez serves as the Senior Instructor for the 25S10 SATCOM Systems Operator-Maintainer Course at the U.S. Army High Tech Regional Training Site – Maintenance, 80th Training Command. The High Tech Regional Training Site is one of more than 20 tenant activities that operate on post at Tobyhanna Army Depot. The wide array of skillsets and services provided by these organizations compliments Tobyhanna’s vast portfolio of capabilities to create a one stop shop for equipping a ready, modern, and prepared generation of warfighters.
In nominating Vazquez for the award, Master Sgt. Gregory Grierson described him as “a highly decorated combat veteran with two overseas deployments in support of Operation Iraqi Freedom and Operation Enduring Freedom in Afghanistan.”
Vazquez’s extensive resume includes four Army Commendation Medals, seven Army Achievement Medals, and the Master Army Instructor Badge awarded to fewer than 1% of all Army instructors.
Vazquez’s commitment to his nation is shaping the next generation of America’s warfighters inside and outside the classroom. He achieved a 97% instructor observation average, a 92% Master Instructor Selection Board score, and a 99.9% rating during the tri-annual Quality Assurance assessment. He also supported three missions with 335th Signal Command units, improving their Signal equipment readiness by 70% and has seen two of his instructors earn the Senior Army Instructor Badge.
Grierson said Vazquez’s “awards and decorations reflect consistent superior performance, dedication to Soldier development, and a proven commitment to operational readiness and training excellence. “Through unmatched dedication, leadership, mentorship, and mission impact, Sgt. 1st Class Vazquez has delivered exceptional service to soldiers, the Army training enterprise, and the broader military community. His performance reflects great credit upon himself, Tobyhanna Army Depot, and the United States Army.
Vazquez shares the recognition with his team and said their effort inspires him to serve daily.
Being recognized as an Outstanding Active-Duty Servicemember is deeply humbling. It reflects not just my effort, but the teamwork, sacrifice, and purpose that drive me to serve every day.”
The Outstanding Active-Duty Servicemember award and other employee recognition programs align with Tobyhanna's long-range strategic plan, TOBY2035 - specifically the Connecting with the Community line of effort. The goal of Tobyhanna Army Depot’s plan is to strive to position Tobyhanna for success in the coming years as the Department of War's premier worldwide C5ISR readiness provider.
Tobyhanna Army Depot is designated as the Center of Industrial and Technical Excellence for Command, Control, Communications, Computers, Cyber, Intelligence, Surveillance and Reconnaissance (C5ISR), electronics, avionics, and missile guidance and control. Tobyhanna Army Depot provides cradle-to-grave lifecycle support through depot-level repair, systems integration, software and cyber engineering, and field support. A key enabler of operational readiness for Joint and Allied Forces globally, TYAD leverages new and emerging technologies to further expand the Department of War’s organic capabilities for microelectronics, secure communications infrastructure, unmanned aerial systems, Joint All-Domain Command and Control (JADC2), Integrated Air and Missile Defense (IAMD), and the Army’s Next Generation Combat Systems (NGC2). TYAD’s ability to rapidly surge production, deploy field support teams, and scale for contingency or theater-level operations makes it a vital contributor to strategic readiness and operational reach.
