Registration opens for Poznań Run June '56

On Friday, February 13th, registration will begin for the next edition of the Poznań June '56 Run - a sporting and historical event commemorating the workers' uprising of 1956. Participants will be able to choose a distance of 5 or 10 kilometers, and the program also includes a Remembrance Relay and family and children's runs.

The Poznań June '56 Run is one of the few events in the country whose route leads through authentic sites associated with the events of 1956. Participants will run through, among others, the former Hipolit Cegielski Works, the Volkswagen Foundry, and the Rail Vehicle Factory – areas where the workers' protest began.

The start and finish line of the event will traditionally be located at the mural commemorating the Poznań June 1969 protests on the HCP grounds. The route, leading through the industrial part of the city, gives the event a unique character and highlights its historical dimension.

Two distances and a memory relay

Participants will be able to choose between 5 and 10 kilometers. The longer route will feature the June 1956 Remembrance Relay, consisting of five 2-kilometer sections. Transition zones will be designated at points significant to the history of the protest.

The program also includes family and children's races, which will enable people of all ages and entire families to participate.

Sports and education

The event is not only sporting, but also social and educational.

"The June '56 Run is distinguished by its route through the industrial heart of Poznań, creating a unique atmosphere for the event. We want this run to continue to inspire and teach future generations the values of freedom, solidarity, and responsibility for our shared heritage," says Szymon Sobczak, organizer.

Each participant will receive a commemorative, cast medal and materials explaining the history of the Poznań June. A historical and educational zone, developed in collaboration with museums, will be set up at the finish line, allowing participants to deepen their knowledge of the course and significance of the workers' uprising.

Detailed information on registration and rules of participation can be found on the event website.

The Year of the Poznań June Heroes

This year, we celebrate the 70th anniversary of the Poznań June 1956 events. This uprising was one of the first acts of resistance against the communist regime in the post-war Eastern Bloc. To commemorate these events, so important to the identity of our city, the Poznań City Council has designated 2026 as the Year of the Heroes of the Poznań June 1956.

City councilors decided unanimously to establish this year's patrons during the session on October 14, 2025.

- The Poznań City Council, understanding the significance of the events of Poznań June 1956 for the history of Poznań, Poland and the entire Europe, wishes to pay tribute to all participants of the heroic uprising - we read in a statement adopted in October last year.

Guide to top sporting events in Poznań for 2026

The sporting year in the capital of Greater Poland will bring a number of exciting events across many disciplines. The highlight of this year will undoubtedly be the Canoeing World Championships, which will take place in August at the Malta Regatta Course.

"The world's most important kayaking event will be visiting the capital of Greater Poland for the fourth time in 36 years. Poznań is the only Polish city to host a competition of this caliber. We have excellent conditions for this, and the Malta track is our pride," says Marcin Gołek, Deputy Mayor of Poznań. "In 2026, Poznań fans and sports enthusiasts will also be able to enjoy numerous events in other disciplines. Everyone will certainly be keeping their fingers crossed for our teams to achieve the highest possible rankings in the league competition."

Spring on the run and on the mat

This year's sports season will kick off in March with the next edition of the Record Ten. This year, it's scheduled precisely for Women's Day. Runners will tackle 10 km of trails around the Malta Regatta Course and the streets of Poznań. A 5 km race will be held the day before, and the weekend will also feature children's competitions.

Every year, with the exception of the pandemic, since 2019, Poznań has hosted the European Junior Judo Cup, which will take place on the last weekend of March at the Adam Mickiewicz University hall in Morasko. Over 400 competitors from over 20 countries are expected to participate. Participants will compete in seven weight categories for men and women. Several dozen Polish national teams will also participate.

The 18th Poznań Half Marathon will take place on April 19th. Organizers are hoping for another record-breaking turnout compared to last year's event, when over 12,000 people completed the event. This year's limit of participants has been set at 14,000. In previous years, the race began and ended at the Poznań International Fair. This year's route will be announced soon.

As usual, entry packages for the charity Wings for Life World Run sold out very quickly. This event will take place simultaneously in numerous cities around the world on May 10th. In Poznań, 8,000 people will participate, and all proceeds from the entry fees will go towards spinal cord injuries.

In addition to the European Junior Judo Cup, two other major combat sports events will take place during this period. The Judo Academy will host the Brother Champion Judo Camp, which each year features distinguished representatives of the discipline. This year, it will be Japanese Ryunosuke Haga, former world champion and bronze medalist at the Rio de Janeiro Olympics. The European Kyokushin Karate Championships, organized by the UAF Foundation, will also be held in April. Over 300 competitors will participate in the competition, which will take place at the Poznań University of Physical Education on April 11th.

On May 23rd, Lech and Warta will conclude their league campaigns a week later. Poznań fans will undoubtedly be rooting for both clubs. Lech is fighting for a second consecutive championship. The minimum goal is to secure a spot that will allow them to play in European competitions next season. The Greens, on the other hand, are currently on track to return to the Ekstraklasa. Both teams will play their final matches in Poznań (Lech against Wisła Płock, and Warta against Resovia Rzeszów). It's possible that there will be reasons to celebrate on the next two weekends.

Intensive June

The peak of major sporting events traditionally occurs in June. The organizers of the Freedom Beach are returning to competition this month (last year, the event took place in August as the final of the Polish Beach Volleyball Championships for men and women). This year, it will once again be a qualifying tournament featuring top Polish duos, with the courts at Lake Rusałka hosting the competition from June 12th to 14th. A new international event during this period will be a gala celebrating the 50th anniversary of aikido in Poland, initiated by the Polish Aikido Federation. This event will take on a special dimension thanks to the presence of the great-grandson of the sport's founder, who will be a special guest at the event scheduled for June 13th and 14th at the Poznań International Fair.

The 30th edition of the ATP Enea Poznań Open tennis tournament was a resounding success in 2025. Not only in terms of the sporting events, but also in the number and diversity of accompanying events, which the organizers are very keen to ensure. The high bar is certainly no obstacle for the Olimpia Tennis Park officials, who are preparing further surprises for fans this year. Above all, it's worth emphasizing that we've seen talented players perform at Golęcin many times, later achieving world No. 1 rankings, such as Juan Carlos Ferrero and Marat Safin. This year, from June 14th to 20th, there will certainly be no shortage of exciting matches.

On June 28th, Golęcin will host another major international sporting event: the Czesław Cybulski Memorial. It is part of the World Athletics Continental Tour. In previous years, Poznań has hosted not only top Polish athletes, such as Natalia Bukowiecka, Pia Skrzyszowska, and Piotr Lisek, but also Wayde van Niekerk and Yohan Blake, among many other international stars.

A significant event in 2026 in the capital of Greater Poland will undoubtedly be the 70th anniversary of the Poznań June 1956 Uprising. To mark this occasion, the June '56 Run will take place on June 21st at HCP Works. This will be the 8th edition of the event, always featuring veterans as honorary guests, and its atmosphere and medals reflect the historical theme. Two distances are available for competitors – 5 and 10 km – and there will also be a children's competition. Speaking of the youngest, it's worth mentioning the Enea Junior Poznań Triathlon, the largest competition of its kind in the country for beginners in this sport. This year, for the tenth time, children aged 1 to 15 will have the opportunity to compete in swimming, running, and cycling at the POSiR Chwiałka complex. Every year, this event attracts hundreds of participants, and June will likely be no different.

Summer on a bike and on a kayak

Those staying in Poznań during the summer holidays will also find a wide range of sports on offer. The first weekend of July will see the Gran Fondo cycling event for amateurs, which returned to the capital of Greater Poland last year after a three-year hiatus. The upcoming edition, like last year, will feature the start and finish lines near Enea Stadium, and the competition will take place not only in Poznań but also outside the city limits. Several distances will be prepared for participants, including a route dedicated to children. A week later (July 11-12), the basketball event Basket na Wolności will take place in Wolności Square. The first edition took place a year ago and was well received by residents. It features a 3x3 basketball competition as part of the Polish Championship qualifiers, as well as numerous accompanying events, such as slam dunk contests, in the heart of Poznań.

The city's sporting showcase is the Malta Regatta Course, which hosts international events annually, including the Canoe Sprint World Championships, scheduled for August 26-30. Halfway through preparations for the Olympic Games in Los Angeles, the world's best canoeists, including Polish representatives, will be testing their form. Among them will be Martyna Klatt, representing KS AZS AWF Poznań, who will be defending the title she won in 2025. The Enea Ironman 70.3 Poznań triathlon event will also be taking place at the same time.

A strong end to the year

A key element of the fall sports calendar is the Maciej Frankiewicz Poznań Marathon. This year marks its 25th edition. The anniversary event is scheduled for October 4th, and organizers are sure to prepare numerous attractions, which they will keep you updated on. In addition to the main race, there will also be a 5k race, the Poznań Five, and a children's event as part of the Pho3nix Kids Marathon. A little over a month later, on November 11th at 11:11 a.m., the 10k Independence Run will take place, with up to 10,000 participants expected. Participants will always receive unique medals, reflecting the event's historical significance, as well as St. Martin's croissants.

The sporting year in the capital of Greater Poland will once again be concluded with two major international events. One is the Enea Lech Cup, a football tournament for children under 12, held at Adam Mickiewicz University in Morasko. Leading European football academies are participating, including representatives from clubs such as Manchester City, Chelsea, PSG, and Sporting Lisbon. The second is Cavaliada , a four-day equestrian competition at the Poznań International Fair, which offers competition in dozens of world-class competitions. The event features top Polish riders, as well as internationally recognized competitors, including Olympic medalists.

New map highlights Poznań street art

"A Map of Poznań's Murals, Graffiti, Neon Signs, and Typography from Close to Home / From afar" is the latest publication from the Poznań Local Tourist Organization (PLOT). This bilingual, Polish-English publication features over 120 examples of urban street art.

The map was prepared by Tomasz Bombrych, who has been cataloging Poznań street art and publishing maps of murals and neon signs for years. This year, he joined forces with PLOT due to the growing popularity of these murals as off-the-beaten-path tourist destinations.

"Our map is a guide for those who enjoy getting lost in the city and discovering the most interesting examples of street art along the way. It's an invitation to discover the unknown Poznań: vibrant, creative, and full of extraordinary stories," encourages Jan Mazurczak, President of the Management Board of PLOT.

This publication presents an original selection of over 120 murals, graffiti, neon signs, and remnants of historical wall inscriptions, including a list of the author's Top 10 recommendations. Photographs of individual objects are accompanied by information about their locations, titles, and artists. A schematic map complements the entire publication.

A city rich in murals

The murals on display are incredibly diverse. The exhibition includes works depicting city symbols, images of districts (e.g., Jeżyce, Łazarz, Naramowice), references to important events ("Poznań June 1956," "Strike at the Gdańsk Shipyard 1980" – the largest mural in Poznań, "25 Years of Pyrkon"), and more abstract and symbolic works, such as those created as part of the Outer Spaces Mural Festival.

The walls feature ecological murals ("Mural for Swifts," "Green Poznań"), historical murals ("This is where it all began"), and even murals... poems. Individual works depict both famous Poznań residents (e.g., Stanisław Barańczak, Kazimierz Nowak) and ordinary residents ("Poznanianki. Nasze WsFANIałe"). Sometimes street art takes on a new, unexpected face, as in the case of Noriaki's Mr. Periscope, which has been placed as a... sculpture in Poznań's Bernardyński Square.

"The 'From Close / From Afar' map proves that a walk around Poznań can also be a journey through cultural history," emphasizes Tomasz Bombrych, the map's author. "Alongside painterly quotations, such as René Magritte's 'The Son of Man' and the inspiration for Edward Hopper's 'Night Owls,' there are literary motifs – 'The Little Prince,' Matołek the Billy Goat, and the characters of Małgorzata Musierowicz's 'Jeżycjada®.' It's also an encounter with people who shape the memory of this city – such as actress Krystyna Feldman and the Kalinowskis – renowned Poznań film buffs."

The publication also includes selected works from the Poznań area, including insurgent murals from Śrem and Buk and a painting at the National Museum of Agriculture and Agri-Food Industry in Szreniawa by Arkadiusz Andrejkow - author of the famous "Silent Memorial" series.

A walk along the trail of murals

The paper version of the map is available free of charge at city tourist information points. The project also created an interactive map of street art in Poznań and the surrounding area. Street art is ephemeral, so the publication is constantly updated.

Submissions for new projects are accepted via a special form. Both maps are available at www.visitpoznan.pl/murale .

Free walks along the Poznań mural trail, led by the map's author, are planned for spring.

The current, fourth edition of the publication "From Close to Home / From Far Away" was created as part of a project to support the development of the Poznań Brand - Polish Tourist Brand, co-financed by the Ministry of Sport and Tourism.

Poznań announces 2026 music festival lineups

The festival season, especially the outdoor ones, begins when the weather warms up. In Poznań, it begins in April and lasts until September, though there are exceptions. It's worth planning everything carefully, memorizing the dates, and even writing them down. World-class stars will be coming to the capital of Greater Poland.

Before the festivals proper arrive, "The Magic of Disco 90's Festival" is scheduled for March 7th in Hall 3A at the Poznań International Fair. As the name suggests, it will feature a lot of dance music from the 1990s. Dr. Alban, Loona, La Bouche, and Mr. President are scheduled to appear on stage. So, it's going to be "Bailando," and there will be "Sing Hallelujah" and "Be My Lover." Simply "Coco Jumbo," and onward.

Next Fest Music Showcase & Conference

April 16-18

For several years now, April has been the time for a showcase festival – first Spring Break, and from 2023, Next Festa. This is a first-time event for artists – often debuting on major stages – and for the audience – premieres with music that will soon be making headlines. Stages are located in a dozen clubs, all within a few minutes' walk of each other. Tickets for individual performances are not available, only season tickets. Seating is limited, so it's sometimes possible to miss a concert.

Even though the event is two and a half months away, the lineup isn't finalized yet. So far, we know that you'll be able to hear artists like Vito Bambino, Peja Slums Attack, Ewa Farna, Słoń, Bass Astral, Natalia Szroeder, Misia Furtak, and AudioFeels, who are preparing a special project for Next Fest. The musical range will be extensive, from mature projects to new debuts. In total, over 100 concerts will be held.

Scene above the Rusalka

June, July, August

Although this isn't a typical festival, but rather a concert series, the sheer number of concerts easily qualifies the Scene nad Rusałka (Rusałka Lake Stage) for the festival category. Last year, the project was once again recognized by residents of the capital of Greater Poland and won the 2026 Poznań Participatory Budget. Thanks to their votes, 33 free outdoor concerts will be held on Lake Rusałka during the spring and summer months. This is likely the largest such series in Poland, and above all... free.

According to the organizers, the following events will be organized as part of the "Scena nad Rusałką" in 2026:

  • 3 days of the festival: June 4, 5, 6 (Thursday-Saturday) - in the "June Festival" formula, starting on Corpus Christi - 3 days, 3 musical genres, 3 concerts a day,
