Poznań-Ławica Airport Implements EU Entry/Exit System for Non-EU Travelers

Starting Monday, December 1st, the new EU Entry/Exit System (EES) will come into effect at Poznań-Ławica Airport. For several weeks now, it has been gradually being implemented at the external borders of the Schengen Area. This solution is for travelers from outside the European Union.

The EES applies to all non-EU travellers arriving in or departing from Poland - both those requiring a visa and those enjoying visa-free travel.

Upon first border crossing, the system will record passport data, biometric fingerprints and a facial photo—as well as the date and place of entry or exit. For subsequent journeys, if the information is already in the system, a quick verification is sufficient.

The EES is intended to replace traditional passport stamping. Ultimately, by April 10, 2026, all EU external border crossing points will operate exclusively using the EES. This will enable more effective detection of overstayers and document fraud, among other things, increasing the security and consistency of border controls across the European Union.

At the same time, during the transition period – the initial launch of the EES – passport checks may take slightly longer than before. Passengers departing from Poznań to countries outside the Schengen Area should proceed to border control as soon as possible after passing through the security area, where hand luggage and personal belongings are checked.

At the Poznań airport, officers from the Nadodrzański Border Guard Unit will be overseeing security and border control. Additional information and guidance are available on the EES information portal .

Trams Recommended for Holiday Travel to Poznań Christmas Markets

Christmas markets are underway at Wolności Square, the Old Market Square, and the Poznań International Fair grounds. These attractions are particularly popular on weekends, so please expect temporary changes to traffic patterns from Friday to Sunday, and consider traveling to the city center by public transport.

The smooth and safe running of holiday events may depend, among other things, on the methods of travel chosen by guests, and using public transport will certainly save time searching for a parking space and reduce the risk of traffic jams.

In the event of traffic jams or safety hazards, the Bethlehem organizer, in consultation with the police, may introduce traffic restrictions in the city center on Fridays from 3:00 p.m. to 9:30 p.m. and on Saturdays and Sundays from 1:00 p.m. to 9:30 p.m.

At the request of the police, additional dynamic changes to the organization may be introduced to improve traffic flow or safety. Therefore, the police urge drivers to be especially vigilant, pay attention to road signals and signs, and follow the instructions of law enforcement officials.

Regardless of the current road and weather conditions, visitors to all fair locations will best get there by public transport.

Trams serving the area around Wolności Square and the Old Market Square include lines 3, 4, 5, 6, 8, 9, 12, 13, 16, and 17, as well as buses 160, 163, 167, 174, 176, 190, 603, and 911, and the T7 tram, which replaces it. The MTP fair is accessible by lines 5, 6, 10, 11, 12, 13, 14, 15, 17, and 18, and buses 145, 148, 159, 163, 168, 169, and 177.

A special, free "Stranger Things 5" tram will also be running near the markets until December 10th. It will run daily, from the Starołęka PKM terminus to the city center and back to Starołęka PKM.

Information about public transport stops in Poznań and parking lots around the Old Market Square, Wolności Square and the MTP grounds can be found on the Betlejem Poznańskie website .
