FORT GREELY, Alaska — After more than five years of planning and anticipation, Fort Greely will celebrate the grand opening of its new 8,900-square-foot indoor playground addition to the Aurora Community Activity Center during a
ribbon-cutting ceremony Thursday, Dec. 4, beginning at 5 p.m., inside the Activity Center.
The $19 million project, completed after 1.5 years of construction, closes the loop on a significant quality-of-life upgrade request from Soldiers, families, and the Delta Junction community. Designed to offer year-round recreation in the Interior’s harsh climate, the new space provides a warm and engaging environment for all ages … and nobody seems more excited than Fort Greely Garrison Commander Lt. Col. Alissa Clark.
“From the moment I stepped into command at Fort Greely, I could already feel how deeply this community cares for its families,” said Clark. “It means so much to me to help open this indoor playground and give our kids a warm, joyful place to play during these long winters.”
The addition features a toddler play area, a basketball court, a multi-level playground structure, game rooms, and party rooms … creating a space where children can explore, friends can gather, and families can celebrate special moments together while still staying warm.
“Seeing this indoor playground finally open is incredibly rewarding,” said Mallisa Shea, Fort Greely Family and MWR director. “Our team has worked hard to provide a space that strengthens our military families and Delta Junction community … I am optimistic to see the positive impact this will have in the years to come.”
The ribbon-cutting event is open to the community; however, a valid Aurora CAC pass is needed to attend … please call 907-873-3574 to begin the process of obtaining one.
