PETERSON AIR FORCE BASE, Colo. - During a traditional change of command ceremony, Maj. Eric D. Little handed his company guidon to Lt. Col. J. Dave Price, commander of the 1st Space Battalion, officially relinquishing Little's 18 month command of the 1st Space Company (JTAGS). The event was conducted in the lobby of U.S. Army Space and Missile Defense Command/ Army Forces Strategic Command's Building 3 here during the morning of Oct. 7. After receiving the guidon from Little, Price then passed the guidon to incoming commander, Maj. Jason M. Favero, charging him with the responsibility of leading the globally dispersed company.
Reflecting on the previous changes of command since becoming the battalion's commander, Price told those in attendance, "It is an honor and a privilege to be doing this for the fourth time in the past 90 days - a change of command from one superb officer to another potentially brilliant one.
"We spend a lot of time focused on the leadership in the company during these things but the Joint Tactical Ground Station companies have been phenomenal these past 18 months."
Little said, "Command is a sacred trust and it is an honor and a privilege to serve in this capacity everyday for the last 15 months.
"We are scattered all over the world with four detachments in Germany, Qatar, Japan, and Korea.
"The four detachments around the world that comprise this company are commanded by captains. These captains are forward and away from the flag pole alone and unafraid, doing tremendous work to ensure the mission is met all the while taking care of their Soldiers and their Families. I have a tremendous amount of reliance on these officers and I want to send out a thank you to all of those detachment commanders.
"I sincerely thank you for the opportunity to command the only theater missile warning company in the United States Army."
Little now becomes the executive officer for the USASMDC/ARSTRAT deputy commanding general for operations.
Favero is a 1999 graduate of the University of California at Santa Barbara where he received a commission as an infantry officer.
Among his recent assignments he was deployed in 2006 in support of Operation Iraqi Freedom-V where he took command of Bravo Company 2-35 Infantry in May 2007. Favero then transitioned to Functional Area - 40 as a Space Operations Officer in June 2008 and has been working in the command's G3 Space Plan Branch.
