Washington, D.C. – On October 6, 2025, The Honorable W. Jordan Gillis was sworn in as the Assistant Secretary of the Army for Installations, Energy and Environment following confirmation by the United States Senate. In this role, Mr. Gillis will oversee the policies, programs and resources that shape the Army’s installations, energy strategy, environmental stewardship and safety programs – ensuring that Soldiers, Families and Civilians live and work in safe, modern and resilient communities.
As Assistant Secretary, Mr. Gillis will direct stewardship of the Army’s extensive installation portfolio, which spans hundreds of installations and hundreds of thousands of facilities worldwide. He is charged with advancing Army energy dominance initiatives, modernizing Army housing, ensuring environmental compliance and driving infrastructure modernization that underpins Warfighter readiness and lethality.
Mr. Gillis' most recent government role was as the Assistant Secretary of Defense for Sustainment, where he managed over $170 billion in logistics operations and led policy development for sustainment, energy and real property across the Department of Defense. He previously served as both Acting Assistant Secretary and as Principal Deputy Assistant Secretary of the Army for Installations, Energy and Environment, providing continuity and leadership across major Army initiatives.
A former active duty Army officer, Mr. Gillis earned the Bronze Star Medal and Purple Heart. He holds a Bachelor of Arts from Duke University and a Master of Business Administration from Emory University. Prior to his government service, he was a Director in the Energy Practice at ScottMadden, where he advised utilities and energy-sector organizations. He most recently served in executive roles at Deloitte and UiPath.
With his confirmation, Mr. Gillis will lead Army efforts to modernize infrastructure, ensure energy resilience and maintain safe, sustainable installations that support Soldiers and their Families while advancing readiness, lethality and auditability.
