FORT LEONARD WOOD, Mo. — A lapse in appropriations before the deadline has forced portions of the government to close today, including some services at Fort Leonard Wood.
Only operations and activities essential to life, health and safety – as well as the protection of our national security – are excluded from shutting down. This means that some services on Fort Leonard Wood may be limited, reduced or closed during the shutdown.
The following Fort Leonard Wood services and facilities will remain open during the shutdown:
- General Leonard Wood Army Community Hospital is open and will maintain business as usual.
- The Main Gate Visitors Center is open and will continue to issue passes.
- The following Directorate of Human Resources’ offices are open:
- ID Card Facility will remain open with limited staffing. All appointments that do not include emergency benefit enrollment/updates for dependents or retirees, initial entry training Soldiers, drill sergeants, basic officer leader course or captain career course students, and excepted new hires will be cancelled. Due to limited staffing, walk-in customers cannot be accommodated and will not be seen. Patrons are encouraged to utilize the online option to renew dependent ID cards through the ID Card Office Online system. - Truman Education Center will remain open, and classes will continue as scheduled with limited staffing.
- Official Mail Pick-Up will take place from 8 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. for customer service.
- Casualty Assistance Office will remain open during normal hours with limited staffing.
- In/Out-processing (military only) will remain open with limited staffing.
- Military Personnel Management – Permanent Party and Student Reassignments, Retirements and Separations, Trainee/Student Transition Branch will remain open with limited staffing.
- Transition Assistance Program – will remain open with limited staffing.
- Army Substance Abuse program will have limited staffing, and the Employee Assistance Program will be available by phone at 573.596.7199.
- Directorate of Public Works’ Service Order Desk is open and can accept work orders online at maintenance.army.mil or by calling 573.596.0333.
- Range Operations and the Fire Desk will remain open.
- Religious Support Office is open during normal business hours.
- The Legal Assistance/Claims Office will provide limited services. Please contact 573.596.0629 for questions about legal services being offered during this time.
- The Fort Leonard Wood Commissary will remain open during normal business hours for a period of up to 60 days or until all Defense Commissary Agency defense working capital funds are exhausted. Patrons are asked to bring their own reusable shopping bags or purchase reusable bags in store during this time.
- All AAFES facilities are open during normal business hours.
- All Family, Morale, Welfare and Recreation services and facilities, which are funded with non-appropriated funds, are open regular business hours and include:
- Auto Skills Center
- Bowling Center
- Bruce C. Clarke Library (First Floor)
- CYS facilities (CDCs, FCC, SAC, Pippin Youth Center, Youth Sports, Parent Central School, School Liaison)
- Fitness Centers (Davidson and Specker)
- Lake of the Ozarks Recreational Area
- Leisure Travel Service
- Outdoor Adventure Center
- Marketing and Sponsorship
- Morelli Heights Bar and Grill
- Pershing Community Center
- Piney Valley Golf Course
- Warehouse

Services and facilities closed during the shutdown include:
- Army Community Service is closed though Army Emergency Relief, Victim Advocacy and the Family Advocacy Program are available to assist service members who require those services. Please call 573.596.0613 for AER assistance, 573.528.5784 for Victim Advocacy and 573.596.4268 for FAP.
- The John B. Mahaffey Museum Complex is closed to the public and for visits.
