VICENZA, Italy — For members of the Vicenza military community looking to sharpen their Italian language skills, the SETAF-AF Language Lab offers a unique opportunity: college-level instruction at no cost.

Located on Caserma Ederle and Del Din, the Language Lab provides professionally taught Italian courses to U.S. military ID card holders aged 18 and older. The program is designed to support adults living overseas who wish to begin or continue their study of Italian.

“This is what they do year in and year out,” said David Roseman, Language Program Manager. “They all come from an academic background having studied language instruction. We do have exceptional instructors here.”

All instructors are employed by the Defense Language Institute, the Department of Defense’s primary source for foreign language acquisition. Class sizes are intentionally kept small to ensure personalized instruction.

Priority enrollment is given to active-duty soldiers and Department of Defense civilians, though dependents may enroll if space allows. Classes are held twice weekly on both installations.

Unlike many paid language programs, the Language Lab requires no tuition or textbooks. Students need only bring a pen and paper to participate.

The Language Lab is located at Building 82 on Caserma Ederle and at the Education Center, Building 2, Room 1048B on Del Din. Registration is available online at https://forms.osi.apps.mil/r/w9TrS3LHWS .
